Besides my pipe cleaner Christmas Tree I enjoy making this fun tree. Tomato cage trees are easy, but bulky to store. Hope you take time to try this fun little tree.Looks like chicken wire but it's used for fences and it's coated! Cut 8 pieces of coated fencing wire 12 inches X 24 inches. This wire happen to be white coated, comes in green as well. It's used for fences, too fancy for chicken wire!!
Place one triangle over the other; hook together with metal rings. (these were rings I had that open and close)or you can just wire together. I prefer the coated fencing rather then metal chicken wire for this project. HOWEVER chicken wire works but I would fold over and double for sturdiness...and Krylon Metal spray paint would work to color.Open the triangles, stand and space like photo.PLEASE NOTE THIS JUST ADDED.
I find it easier to wind the lights around if you place coffee cups ( drinking glass) inside each wire section near center to keep tree shape as you wire the lights around.I used 100 small white light string, with white cord. Starting at the bottom (base of tree) with plug-in end, just wind the lights around the wire ends of the fencing. As you can see when I cut the triangles I left points so I could hook on the lights. PLEASE NOTE just ADDED...for safety you don't have to leave points at ends, just wind and wire. I found it helps to cut some 3 inch wires to tie string of lights to fence wire as well.Looks much better when it sits outside on the porch at night. I imagine you could make this larger, but I have only made small ones have also made with green coated fence wire using green cord lights. This is 100 string, could also add another string for fuller lighted tree. A BIG plus, unwind lights and it folds flat for storage.Original article and pictures take http://www.hometalk.com/10863520/too-fancy-for-chickens-wire-christmas-tree site
