Spooky Finger Specimens

These Plaster of Paris fingers are exact replicas of my fingers and my children's fingers. It's easy to make a whole bunch of them and display them in an apothecary jar for creepy Halloween decor.

What you need: alginate, water, plaster of paris, food scale, measuring cups and cups for making the molds.

Prepare the alginate for making the mold. You need to work quickly at this step, because the alginate sets quickly.

Keep the fingers very still in the alginate for around 3 minutes. Pull them straight out once the mold feels set.

Mix together the Plaster of Paris and water. You don't need to make a large batch. Pour it into the mold, tapping the bottom of the cup to release any air bubbles. Let sit for at least 1 to 2 hours to harden. Once hard, gently pull out the finger, using the tip of a butter knife or by grabbing the edges with your finger nails. Try to not damage the mold so that you can use it again for more fingers.

Let the finger continue to dry. Then find fun ways to creep people out with your finger specimens!
