DIY Necktie Lamp Shade

Collect old ties from the men in your house - or visit a thrift store. Create this fun lamp shade - a conversation starter!

Use both ends of each tie for added interest and detail - requires fewer ties, too.

Using a lamp shade or light fixture frame, create a firmer grid by stringing wire across each section.

Pin ties together over frame.

When you have them pinned all the way around, Sew each strip most of the way up to the rim, but not all the way.

It's best to begin stitching from the bottom of the shade cover so your tips will line up correctly.

Stitch a band from the narrow end of a tie around the top rim section. Fold over to the under side and hand stitch it closed. (See next picture.)

Leave a small opening to run small elastic through the opening, around the top end of the shade.

Pull elastic until taught and tie ends in a knot.
