How To Turn a Table Into an Ottoman

How I turned a $1 table into a beautiful ottoman.
This month I was lucky enough to get in on the Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest for their "Spray It Pretty" theme.
I had this table laying around that I picked up at the thrift store. I had absolutely no use for it but it was marked $2 and it was half off furniture day!!!!! So for $1, nice lines and some feminine detail, I had to take this one home with me.

I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. I needed to fix the top which was peeling and chipping but I wasn't liking the idea of just replacing the top. Then I spotted this fabulous pattern while shopping for Halloween costume fabric (fabric that makes an umbrella look like a jellyfish to be exact) and I knew what I needed to do!

This table needed to be turned into an ottoman!
As you can imagine, when you buy a table for $1, it may need a little work. So the first thing I needed to do was a little fixing up. This one was pretty wobbly. A few pocket holes and some scrap wood and it was ready to stand strong once again.
I got to use my Homeright paint sprayer to paint this baby. Home right was nice enough to send me one to try out. It was the first time I used it and I was a little nervous. Think, me covered in paint because I push a button and paint goes flying everywhere and I can't manage to control the flailing sprayer! Well, that didn't happen. I actually plugged it in expecting a noise or something and.....nothing! It doesn't make any noise until you pull the trigger. I was pleasantly surprised. It also doesn't spray a 10 foot wide cone of paint that goes everywhere. It is much less scary in real life than it was in my head.

All you need to do is check the paint for the correct thickness with a little tool they give you. Pour the paint in the container, screw it on and that is it! Clean up is pretty easy too although I wish I had someone to constantly clean up after me when my projects are finished so I can just go style my work.
This is only one coat of Mohair Blue and that was all this table needed!
How awesome is this fabric with this paint color! Could it have been any more complimentary?!?!?!

The top still needed some work to get it ready for the fabric. I had one of those eggs carton mattress pads laying around (don't ask me why) and I thought I could use that as the padding for this project. So I got to cutting it to size. Sometimes things like this are cheaper than buying padding meant for projects and if you need a thicker product, just double it up like I did.
Once that was on and my fabric was all lined up, I started stapling.
Yes I have the oldest stapler known to man. I need an upgrade, bad! Tell my husband, won't you?
Because this table had a wonderful overhang, I wasn't concerned with covering the staples as I would do if I were stapling on a more noticeable area.
Once I completed stapling all the way around, I was able to sit back and put my feet up, after I cleaned up my mess :) Isn't she pretty?
