Made from a cast off old window, this is one of the first projects my DIY husband attempted Since then our love of old windows and fence boards has filled our home with DIY projects galore! The window table has withstood kids and pets and is still a showcase in our living room. The wood is terribly marred and full of holes and divots but is absolutely beautiful.Filled with simple decor and decorated for the seasons the table is a centerpiece for our living room.
The window sash required the most prep time. My husband wanted to retain as much of the character as possible while bringing the different woods closer together in color and texture. These tables remain completely raw when finished, so there’s not much wiggle room to manipulate the surfaces. The panes had to be re-glazed after which he cleaned the glass with a razor blade and straightened the lines.
I had to break down and buy a pair of brass piano hinges and then just distressed them with sandpaper.
Each piece has to be selected with purpose, and even then the angles don’t always turn out perfect. Sometimes a bit of wood filler at a corner or two is necessary!
The original inside of the window is the side turned up.
