As part of a challenge with other bloggers, I was given an IKEA Rast dresser and asked to transform it with paint, hardware, and other DIY supplies of my choice. I decided to turn my dresser into an awesome bar cart and give it to my sister as an apartment-warming gift! The IKEA Rast dresser is very small and basic. This is what it looks like when fully assembled.
I modified the basic dresser by taking out the bottom two drawers, replacing the particle board backer with beadboard, and creating a scalloped bottom lip piece. And of course I primed it before painting.
I also added a lip around the top of the dresser with square dowels that I adhered with wood glue.
I painted the entire piece a glossy, charcoal gray color and added gorgeous vintage-eque brass hardware. I used cup pulls on the top drawer and handles on the sides of the cart. The handles serve as a spot to hang tea towels or to pull the cart.
I also added casters to the bottom of the cart so that it can be easily moved for maximum serving capabilities at any party my sister might throw. :-)
It's so perfect in her new apartment! If you'd like to learn more about this project (including a full supply list and more photos), please check out my blog at the link below!
