Planter With Antique Typography

Time for the Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest and this month's theme is "Spray it Pretty". This month's sponsor is HOMERIGHT and we were each given a paint sprayer for our project...

I love old typography and so incorporated it into this plain wood planter now in green and black.

This is the piece that I had in mind. I began by cleaning it with a wet rag and vinegar in water. I sanded slightly.

I decided rather than just paint it one color, to paint it green and do some graphics against a black front. I wanted it to be pretty but not too girly.

I worked on an original design inspired by antique Seed Packets and Annuals. I used my Silhouette Designer Program and then cut stencils to paint on the lettering.

I could have hand painted it, but I wanted it to look like an old store display with really crisp lines. I originally was going to have the word Providence in the original wood tone, but it ended up looking too orange, so I cut out another stencil and painted it in white acrylic craft paint.

I also painted these chairs in black to go with it and to be a set for someone's porch.
